Finally the blog is getting a bit of love in the form of an update!  Too bad it had to come at the expense of me cashing in on two weeks vacation time to make it happen!  So much has been happening and I will share it with you all in due time.  But for now I bring to you new reusable produce bags!

Photo Facelift

It’s amazing how new pictures give a fresh look to old inventory; an alternate view has the ability to catch the eye of a prospective buyer.  Something that has been viewed numerous times is shown in a new light and just like that it finds a home!

Rephotographing old inventory is something I’ve been meaning to do, but for lack of urgency it ended up becoming one of those things that fell by the wayside.  Finally the time has come to get this mini-project into motion!

First to go back in front of the lens: Flower Pot Covers.

I had gotten the idea for these little cuties back in ’09.  I had given them as holiday gifts for my plant-loving friends, along with placing several in my Etsy shop.  The original images were all taken with my old point and shoot, inside with a flash.  I rephotographed them outside with natural light.

Clearly, the new images speak for themselves!  I’ve swapped out the old pictures on Etsy and have begun listing them in my Artfire shop.  I’ve only had a couple of sales through Artfire, but that is due to my lack of interest.  I opened that shop several years ago but never gave it much attention.  Now that there is a monthly fee for sellers, I’ve decided to give it another go since its popularity has grown.

Decisions Decisions

Anyone who knows me is aware that at times that I can be a bit indecisive. This my dear readers is where YOU factor in. While surfing the fabulous marketplace that is etsy, I’ve decided to treat myself a new messenger bag. Nothing fancy, just a simple design that is durable and roomy enough to tote around my laptop. Yes, I know I can make one but that is simply not the point. Besides, I have yet to dabble in screen printing, so there! (like how I justified my purchase?)

Below are the bags I am painstakingly deciding upon.

1. the panda…OK is he cute or what!!
2. Reminiscent of E.A.Poe’s The Raven.
3. um, hello, I grow my own food!
4. The owl…again with the cuteness factor.
5. Barren trees, I love thee.

Cashing in on Hallmark Holidays

With winter in full swing much of my creating tends to gravitate towards the warmth of woolly fibers. There’s something to be said about spending a lazy weekend afternoon nestled amongst blankets watching a movie while my fingers frantically twist and loop yarn.

I’m not big on holidays, especially those of the Hallmark persuasion. With that being said I also don’t write them off entirely, at least not on the business end of the spectrum. Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner I thought I would create a few crocheted butterflies for my etsy shop. If they don’t sell it’s no biggie, especially since I normally include one, along with a hand written note, as a way to saying thank you to my customers.

Here are a few pictures of the love inspired cuties I whipped up last weekend.

New Year New Calendar

Did you find yourself stepping into 2010 without a new calendar? If so Nichole Roberts from Little Brown Pen has you covered! She is offering her useless verbalisms calendar as a free down load via her blog. Nichole is a fellow Lancasterian who shares my same sinful love for whoopie pies! She even has an adorable gift kit that on occasion is offered in her etsy shop. I am a huge fan of her adorable printables!

A New Treasure

After much deliberation and encouragement from friends, family and the like I’ve decided to embark on another creative endeavor. MyDarkChamber has come to fruition in the form of an Etsy shop. I started listing images this past weekend and was excited to be notified that a print I posted last night made it into a treasury!

I was beyond thrilled to receive such positive feedback so quickly! Trust me, I’m no Ansel Adams by any stretch, nor do I consider myself a photographer. I just tend to end up with a few interesting compositions now and then. I figure if I like them maybe someone else will to!

Killing Birds, Metaphorically Speaking That Is!

My brain hurts! I just spent the last 5+ hours designing a new banner for my etsy shop. It all started last Saturday when my good friend Justine asked if I would like to have my Etsy shop critiqued. Always one for positive criticism I said sure. Besides if I didn’t like hearing what da bitch was saying, well shit I’ll just hang up on her! 🙂 She gave me lots of really great advice and one by one I’ve been making the adjustments and crossing them off my list. I’m a big list person, it gives me a sense of accomplishment!

Last night I started googling Photoshop cs2 banner tutorials. I don’t have a manual because my brother, the graphic designer, *shared* the program with me. Even if I did have the book I probably wouldn’t look in it anyway. I’m like *that guy* who refuses to stop for directions because I KNOW where I am going. Only when I am driving I am the first to pull over and ask because I am ALWAYS getting lost and having to turn around! And to think I was in sales at one time and had to drive everywhere. On a side note map quest fucking sucks!!!! Now where was I, oh yea tutorials, well they blow too! I wasn’t able to find what I was looking for. I did learn how to make watermarks on photos…score! These are not the kind that result from sitting a condensating glass on your picture, I am already very familiar with that method thank you very much! Kelly recently posted how some bitch on ebay…my words not hers, I don’t think she’s ever used a bad word in her life!…stole her pictures to post on an auction for buttons she was selling. Kelly makes some really adorable accessories and whatnots using buttons, check them out! The lady did not give credit where credit was due and let people assume these creations were made by her. Well they weren’t and Kelly happened to stumble on this auction. I was glad to hear she give her a big piece of her mind, in the polite Kelly way! 🙂 There have also been reports of people stealing other artists images and selling them as their own work. They get the money and never send the item because they never made it in the first place! So watermarking my photos was definitely on my to do list in a BIG way! Along with sharing pictures of a recent custom apron set which happen to be the watermarked photos! I love multitasking in a post, it’s like killing a whole flock of birds with one flame torch!OK, so the saying really goes It’s like killing two birds with one stone, but if you know me or you’ve been following my blog then you know I like putting my own spin on things!

Here are the pictures of my recent banner making adventures. I know the images are small but I have no idea how to enlarge them without making them distorted so just squint and deal with it people! The first one is my original design. In the second one I flipped the skirt order and added hemp to the title. Justine and I were talking earlier and she mentioned that search engines were looking at words in your banner and using them as tags…or something like that.

So next on the agenda is to start redoing my photographs, as in taking new ones outside to achieve better light quality. It sucks having so many artist friends because they all tell me different things and usually contradict each other. Jason says use a clean white background to not distract from the item you are selling and to use a dress form. J says show the fit on a real person. Yada Yada Yada Did I mention my head hurts!?!
