Cuddle Bugs

Don’t be fooled by the cuteness.  These two are weapons of mass destruction!

I can tell that we are gonna be friends.

Meet Jedi, my new house mate.

She came to live with me the end of February when my friend, Chris, made his big move across the pond. This has been a dream in the making for several years; after acquiring his Irish citizenship last year the time had come for him to get serious about his plan!

In no time at all he secured an IT position in Galway, Ireland; this gave him about a month to get his affairs in order. Translation, find a home for your crap, find a home for you cat. Since Jedi is a Boston Kitty (JP specifically) I started asking all my beantown connections. No one knew of anyone looking for a furry friend, so it was decided she would be placed into a no-kill shelter (since international animal travel requires a 6 month quarantine). Having severe future cat-lady tendencies, this did not sit well with me, so I decided to care for her till she makes the move to Ireland, which will be early Fall.

As a sort of going away gift and to hopefully alleviate some of the anxiety from leaving his friend of 10 years behind, Jedi and I had a photo shoot. Here are some of my favorites!

Yeah, so remember this post? The post in which I was so adamant about not having any more furry feet in my house, that I went ahead and made my duvet cover; lets just say that Jedi is ALL OVER IT, literally! Sigh, I am such a disciplinarian.

Riding the High

Tonight, I had a moment of creative clarity. What’s even better is that I was able to simultaneously harness and then execute it. That rarely happens, especially in the same moment. My brain is a constant swirly mess of designs, visions and ideas. Seriously, this type of fluid creativity happens for me about twice a year. In that exact moment my spine straightened, I drew in a breath and my head cleared. I was essentially high. It. Was. Awesome. I constantly carry around a mini tablet in anticipation of moments just like this and I am unable to bring that creative surge into fruition.

For me, the creative process is something that is  labored and then birthed. It does not come easy. I create a lot of things, every once in a while I create art. Not that a blog banner is  in any way art, but it came together in the same exactness that previous works have. It was easy. Crop-clip-flip, repeat. It’s clean, concise and exactly how it appeared in my head.

Several years ago Jason and I stayed up all night creating pieces for the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival. The whole time I was high on creativity; it was incredible. The best part was my submission made it into the main room and his was placed in the side room. Jason is an amazing artist and to know that something I created was so well received blew my mind. It still does.

The photograph I selected was taken by Justine, while vending the Rothburry Music Festival in 2008. I modified the colors, then manipulated the image in photoshop to create the banner you see now. I remember that moment and all I was experiencing. I was standing in a field, gazing at a pond, feeling completely at peace, just taking everything in…which she captured precisely. Thank you Justine!

Planets and Their Perfect Alignment

Astronomy, yes. Astrology, not so much. With correct wording and just a touch of vagueness anyone can find truth and meaning in their horoscope. I always take my predictions with a grain of salt.

Here is what the stars have in store for me for the upcoming year.

Libra Outlook for 2011 Overview
Oh the lessons you have endured over the course of 2010. You’re not the same people-pleasing darling you were a mere 12 months ago. On the contrary darling — you are in the midst of a powerful process of cultivating the kind of backbone that makes greatness. Thanks to big daddy Saturn you’re learning your lessons well in relinquishing laziness, strengthening discipline, and realizing your authority. You’re taking yourself more seriously in the arenas where it matters most

Relationships bring plenty of passion, drama and unexpected plot twists especially during the spring. By the time May rolls around you’ll be dealing with an unprecedented amount of planetary energy firing up your relationship sector. With six planets including Venus, your ruler and Jupiter, the planet of abundance lining up in your partnership sector you’ll be anything but lonely. The challenge lies in staying true to your own needs without getting lost in the persuasive me-me-me demands of your significant others.

Although some of Saturn’s lessons will weigh in on a heavier note and perhaps depriving you of any former easy-outs or shortcuts, you have the uncanny ability to take it all in stride. There’s something to be said for the inherent Libran laid-back approach to life’s challenges. But under current planetary duress you may join the ranks of the stressful millions in your quest for regaining inner peace and unshakable equilibrium. Forever striving for that elusive balance, you’re being put through the cosmic ringer when it comes to finding and holding your own with others. But you will get there Libra — just you wait and see!

Year 2011 Career
You’re still revamping your true vocational calling by cutting out all of the extraneous little side-jobs that once ate up so much of your precious time. The final days of the North Node in your career sector at the start of 2011 give you one last prodding to determine your own true north. No longer can you beg the question. Fence sitting in all aspects of your life is quickly becoming an extinct option, especially when it comes to your work. By nature you’re indecisive but 2011 is the year for commitment. Put your doubts aside and just get on with what you do best: bringing more beauty and harmony to everything you touch. At the end of the day, you’re an artist — and that’s that.

Although you may still be saddled with your fair share of responsibilities, you’re finally able to see the forest through the trees and get a grip on the bigger career picture. You prefer any work that involves socializing, utilizing your creative and intellectual talents and of course flirting your heart out. This is why sitting behind an isolated desk doing menial tasks will just never rock your world. You’re finally coming to terms with saying no to anything you consider a giant waste of your time, and you can thank Saturn for that. Adding to the planetary support to align work with soul, Neptune, the planet of glamour and dreams enters your work sector this April through August. It shall then again return in 2012 to stay for an extended 14-year ride, making sure that you absolutely adore what you do. This is a wonderful opportunity to find meaning and inspiration in your work.

Year 2011 Romantic
Co-dependency be damned, Libra! You’ve had your fill of accommodating every wish, desire and need of your mate to your own detriment. You’re also finished with sugarcoating the truth and resorting to passive-aggressive tactics to get your needs met. For a sign that prefers balance, such extreme give and no take throws your scales way off kilter. The imbalance can no longer be ignored or justified. The rules of the game have changed and you’ve learned to just say no. Saturn has been working hard on rebalancing the karmic scales and forcing you to draw some serious lines in order to regain important equilibrium in your partnerships. Relationships continue to be a major priority this year Libra, but topping this list is the relationship you have with number one. Falling in love with yourself and being true to your needs is no longer a luxury but a dire necessity.

You’ve survived enough painful romantic disillusionments to last you a lifetime during Neptune’s spell in your romantic sector over the past fourteen years. Of course falling in love certainly has it’s high points but the crash after the reality check gets to be too much after enough heart-break repeats. The good news is that Neptune leaves your romantic sector for good allowing you to once again trust your perceptions when choosing your match. Love is especially in the air when Venus enters Libra in late September and early October, just in time to guarantee a wonderfully amorous birthday season.

Pardon the Fluff

I’m sure you’ve noticed there’s not a whole lot of crafting going on ’round this here blog. Mainly that is because I am up to my elbows in brine, sauce, berries and good ol’ Lancaster County dirt. Growing, harvesting and “putting up” your own food flutters on the edge of being a full time job. Then toss in a 9-5, house & yard chores along with working Saturday mornings’ Farmer’s Market and frankly, I’m surprised I’ve posted anything over the past few months!

I have done some crafting, modest as it may be. In July I made a skirt for my cousin’s daughter in trade for gettin’ my hairs cut. Please ignore the model’s nakedness, I keep forgetting to pick up some toddler tops to cover the creepy plastic dress form! I don’t make children’s clothing enough to keep it in the forefront of my mind…until picture time that is!

I’m still spending a good amount of time behind my camera. My 365 challenge will come to a close the beginning of October. Honestly, I can’t wait! It’s been fun for the most part, but I’m so over that project now.

Below are a few pictures I pulled from my One Green Tomato and Literal Light blogs to show you what I’ve been up to. Cause I know you think I’m really just kickin’ back, eatin’ bon-bons and being fanned by gorgeous Greek gods and all.

My sunflowers have reached an astonishing height of 14 feet this year! Told ya I got good dirt!
My beans have started coming in; the constant canning has begun!
Plum Pickin’ = Plum Jam, Plum Chutney, Plum Conserves
I grow corn, it is red.
I chase butterflies, constantly!
Radishes
Saturday Morning Market
Curing Onions
Broccoli

If you are interested in keeping up with my photography, gardening and kitchen adventures then may I suggest you head on over to One Green Tomato and Literal Light and sign up to follow me…because followers rock and then I’m not just rambling on about nothing to myself! 😉

Hide and Seek

I woke up this morning, once again my alarm did not go off so maybe it is time for a new one. I came downstairs, made coffee and settled in at my desk to read my email. I have a few site I check regularly for activity, this being one of them. I click on my blog and much to my surprise several of my uploaded images are gone!?! WTF?? I am missing my coneflower skirt from yesterday and all the images I posted in the previous entry are gone. Well, not completely gone as there is still a white outline where an image *should* be. When you click on that white line the image magically appears in a new window. Ummmm hello, not the same, why did they turn invisible on me? What is this hide and seek game they are playing and how do I make them stop???
