Snow Day

I tend to get a bit happy-happy-happy when there is a “real” snowfall in the forecast.  So just imagine my inner-child’s excitement when those flakes began to fall!  No longer could I sit by the window reading as my surroundings became a blanket of white, I simply had to go outside and play… with my camera of course!

It felt good to be behind the lens giving my creativity a much-needed outlet.  With the exception of birthdays and holidays, I haven’t done much creating over the past year; hopefully I can change that in 2013, but with my current work schedule I’m not making any promises!

Photo Facelift

It’s amazing how new pictures give a fresh look to old inventory; an alternate view has the ability to catch the eye of a prospective buyer.  Something that has been viewed numerous times is shown in a new light and just like that it finds a home!

Rephotographing old inventory is something I’ve been meaning to do, but for lack of urgency it ended up becoming one of those things that fell by the wayside.  Finally the time has come to get this mini-project into motion!

First to go back in front of the lens: Flower Pot Covers.

I had gotten the idea for these little cuties back in ’09.  I had given them as holiday gifts for my plant-loving friends, along with placing several in my Etsy shop.  The original images were all taken with my old point and shoot, inside with a flash.  I rephotographed them outside with natural light.

Clearly, the new images speak for themselves!  I’ve swapped out the old pictures on Etsy and have begun listing them in my Artfire shop.  I’ve only had a couple of sales through Artfire, but that is due to my lack of interest.  I opened that shop several years ago but never gave it much attention.  Now that there is a monthly fee for sellers, I’ve decided to give it another go since its popularity has grown.

This Moment

{this moment} – A Friday ritual inspired by SouleMama. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment.  A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

I can tell that we are gonna be friends.

Meet Jedi, my new house mate.

She came to live with me the end of February when my friend, Chris, made his big move across the pond. This has been a dream in the making for several years; after acquiring his Irish citizenship last year the time had come for him to get serious about his plan!

In no time at all he secured an IT position in Galway, Ireland; this gave him about a month to get his affairs in order. Translation, find a home for your crap, find a home for you cat. Since Jedi is a Boston Kitty (JP specifically) I started asking all my beantown connections. No one knew of anyone looking for a furry friend, so it was decided she would be placed into a no-kill shelter (since international animal travel requires a 6 month quarantine). Having severe future cat-lady tendencies, this did not sit well with me, so I decided to care for her till she makes the move to Ireland, which will be early Fall.

As a sort of going away gift and to hopefully alleviate some of the anxiety from leaving his friend of 10 years behind, Jedi and I had a photo shoot. Here are some of my favorites!

Yeah, so remember this post? The post in which I was so adamant about not having any more furry feet in my house, that I went ahead and made my duvet cover; lets just say that Jedi is ALL OVER IT, literally! Sigh, I am such a disciplinarian.

Making the Old New Again

Well, at least when it comes to pictures that is. This winter I’m planning a site overhaul. I thought I would get a jump on that overwhelming task by rephotographing some older inventory. By switching up images it keeps things looking fresh and new!

Since my free time is so limited I thought I’d start off small and first tackle my tea wallets. I grabbed a few tea related props and in between canner loads of peaches I started shooting. Definitely an improvement on the previously listed pictures of years past!
