Well, actually it was more like a year ago last Sunday. June 27th 2009 my little brother got hitched to his beautiful and loving “Baby Mama”. Seriously, that joke never gets old! Whaddya Think?

I decided it was time for a blog overhaul! It’s much less time consuming than revamping the website, which I have been putting off for MONTHS! Now that growing season is in full swing, it is probably going to have to wait till late fall early winter, and I am A-OK with that!!!

So what to do think of my new blog design and banner? I’m going to create several more banners to select from. I’m not really wild about this one, but for now it gets the job done!

I *think* I like the pictures I’ve selected but may change them up a bit or I may remove the brown layer and make that into a box for the pictures to be placed in. Who knows. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions??

Want. Need.

I. Must. Have. This.
In all seriousness, if I have any adoring fans who feel the need to show their love for moi by purchasing this tea set, please feel free to do so. I will graciously accept your generous token of affection and fondly think of you every time I use it, which would be all the freakin’ time! Shit, I may even invite you over for an afternoon of tea and strawberry scones. Unless that is, you are super scary stalker boy. Then you’ll need to drop ship that to the post office. I’ll arange for someone to pick it up cause I ain’t telling you where I live, suckah!!

If you find that you currently do not have the wherewithal for gifting me the tea set, I will happily accept this serving bowl until your pennies are saved for my rainy day!

Music Monday – Mumford and Sons

Recently there have been quite a few songs that incapacitate me, this happens to be one of them. I can do nothing but surrender myself to the enchanting lyrics and emotions it summons from within.

Creativity in the Form of Peridot & Carnelian

I am happy to report that I can FINALLY cross jewelry making off my never ending to do list! In my last post I mentioned that I picked up a few pendents while visiting the bison farm, one for my niece and the other was for me. Well, I decided to take a trip into downtown Lancaster after work on Friday to stop into The Beadworks. It had been a few years since I visited last, so I was eager to see what they had added to their gem stone inventory and beading supplies. I was delighted to see they had grown but not as much as I had hoped. After two slightly wishy washy hours of creative contemplation I ended up selecting a few pieces of peridot, some charms, wire, jump rings as well as several clasps. As soon as I arrived home I popped in a movie and got to work. I must have made and remade the necklace about 4 times until I came up with a configuration I was happy with. Here is my finished piece!

It’s nothing fancy, just a bit of faceted peridot paired up with carnelian disks and a carnelian mushroom pendant. I purchased the strand of disks at a festival back in o4 or 05, I think. That is how long I’ve been wanting to get into making jewelry.

While out and about yesterday I picked up a set of crimpers, a beading tray and some silver spacers. I also placed an order for more stones and beads. I think I may take the necklace apart, again, and rework my stones to include some of my new spacers. I just feel like it is still missing something almost as if the peridot gets lost in all the orange. Plus I want to make sure my crimp tubes are secure since I used my flat pliers to attach them.

So now I’ve caught the beading bug and once my supplies arrive there will definitely be a few pieces made for the site! 🙂

Memorial Day Weekend Highlights

Every year the ladies in my family get together for a girls weekend at the cabin. The gathering usually consists of great food, a bit of shopping and lots of lounging and laughing.  Here are some highlights from our adventures!

Saturday morning we visited a bison farm which turned out to be a bust. The bison are in a large field across the street from the real attraction, the tourist centered Native American gift shop! I ended up selecting a few hand cut stones to be made into necklaces for CeCe and myself along with a set of hand crafted silver studs. Grammy got Cecelia a beaded moccasin necklace.
Our next stop was the Colvin Covered Bridge, part of the Bedford County Covered Bridge Tour, which happened to be right down the road from the bison farm. There are 14 covered bridges in the county. Clearly someone can’t count or ended up receiving a great deal on a misnumbered plaque because it reads #15. Regardless, we can cross this one off our list!
Built in 1927, The Coffee Pot on the Lincoln Highway in Bedford, was where travelers would stop for a hot cup of joe and fill up. While it’s no longer a functioning service station it’s still an interesting piece of local history.
Next it was onto the Jean Bennett Tavern for lunch and a wicked case of food poisoning! Note to self Do NOT order the portobello mushroom sandwich, as if we will be back any time soon. I’ve eaten there before and never had a problem, but when 2 out of 4 guests become violently ill the next day and the only deviation from the weekend menu was the portobellos you know something is not quite right!

Before the above mentioned went down we did enjoy feeding the resident goats. CeCe was not too sure about them at first, but once I showed her how it was done she had a blast!

Our last stop took us into downtown Bedford where an antique street fair was taking place. By then it had become very hot and humid so we detoured into the local chocolate shop for some air conditioning and chocolate covered strawberries! Cecelia had fun swinging around the poles of the parking meters. Could this be her future employment, lets hope not! haha
We ended the day with a few drinks, a bonfire and smores. Below is an untouched photo showing off the picturesque sunset. Just look at how vibrant the sky was!

Underdeveloped & Overexposed

Well, I’ve gone and done it again. I started yet another blog. This is the last one though, promise. Groups of three make me happy and since I have three interests that I am very passionate about, I thought it was only fair to give each one their own shining spotlight. Plus I’m slightly neurotic when it comes to certain things but we won’t get into that here. 🙂

The new blog can be found here. Some of the photographs waiting in the que have already been posted here or on OneGreenTomato. But fear not friends, my Nikon is permanently attached to my face so I have lots of new ones going up too!

If you use google reader or bloglines, the official web address is http://www.literallight.blogspot.com/.
